Our choir
Come, hear the gospel in song
The choir at Holy Spirit Orthodox Church is made up of members of our community who come with diverse music backgrounds. The choir regularly provides music for the Divine Liturgy on Sundays as well as pre-sanctified liturgies, Hierarchical Divine Liturgies, and special feast days. The music for these services represents many styles, including Russian, Greek, Romanian, Georgian, and Byzantine.
Within the choir, there are a few members who also chant Orthros, Vespers, and other services in the traditional Byzantine style.Whereas much of the choral music in the church is in four part harmony, the chanting style is typically done in unison, or as a solo with Ison, or drone. Four of our chanters are currently enrolled in a Byzantine music course to study this style more in depth, which has expanded their repertoire of hymns.
The Holy Spirit Orthodox Church Choir rehearses at 4:00pm on Saturdays. In addition to singing at services, the choir performs Christmas carols in December and gives informational “concerts” at our annual Middle Eastern Dinner. They also participate in retreats to improve their craft and learn new music. For more information about the choir, contact  Diakonissa Michele Paise at m.paise@moreheadstate.edu.

Come For a Visit
We would love to meet you!

Orthodox worship is different! Some of these differences are apparent, if perplexing, from the first moment you walk in a church. There is nothing we expect from you when you visit, just slide quietly into our pews and watch the services.
